چکیده

This paper analyses and compares the performance of forward planning conflict-free (FPCF), virtual output queuing-partitioned (VOQ-P) and virtual output queuing-shared (VOQ-S) packet switches. The influence of packet burst size, offered switch load and packet switch size are all investigated. Packet loss probability, average packet delay and 99.9% packet delay values are also derived. In comparison tests, FPCF packet switches perform better than VOQ-P packet switches and yield similar results to VOQ-S packet switches. The advantage of VOQ-S switches is manifested in somewhat lower probability of packet loss, while the advantage of FPCF switches is revealed in the limited values of their maximum packet delays. q 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. FPCF Input-Queued Packet Switch for Variable-Size Packets

The existing forward planning conflict-free (FPCF) packet switches are designed for fixed-size packets and synchronous operation mode. In this paper an asynchronous FPCF packet switch for variable-size packets is proposed. The key problem of efficient packet insertion procedure was solved by introduction of a so-called quasi-synchronous record array arrangement. A performance evaluation based o...

Performance Comparison of SB and FPCF Packet Switches

In this paper performance analysis and comparison of a SB (Synchronous Bulk) and FPCF (Forward-Planning Conflict-Free) packet switches is joined with different types of traffic. Real traffic flows were captured in various network environments. Based on real traffic flows, MWM (Multifractal Wavelet Model) and Poisson equivalent synthetic traffic flows were generated. Performance is evaluated by ...

Performance of an ATM LAN switch with back-pressure function

Traffic control schemes for ATM networks can be classified into two categories: reactive congestion control and preventive congestion control. Reactive congestion controlcan be effective in ATM local area networks as well as preventive congestion control. A possible scheme to realize efficient reactive congestion control is a switch architecture, which possesses buffers on both sides of input a...

Wavelength Conversion in Optical Packet Switching - Lightwave Technology, Journal of

A detailed traffic analysis of optical packet switch design is performed. Special consideration is given to the complexity of the optical buffering and the overall switch block structure is considered in general. Wavelength converters are shown to improve the traffic performance of the switch blocks for both random and bursty traffic. Furthermore, the traffic performance of switch blocks with a...

Performances of the Data Vortex Switch Architecture Under Nonuniform and Bursty Traffic

The Data Vortex switch architecture has been proposed as a scalable low-latency interconnection fabric for optical packet switches. This self-routed hierarchical architecture employs synchronous timing and distributed traffic-control signaling to eliminate optical buffering and to reduce the required routing logic, greatly facilitating a photonic implementation. In previous work, we have shown ...
